A creature with Devoid

Devoid is a static ability that makes a card colorless, no matter if it has colored mana as its casting cost. Devoid can often be found on creatures with the Eldrazi subtype and Eldrazi-themed sorcery and instant spells.

Devoid and Artifacts/Artifact creatures

Beginners may often think that colorless cards --and therefore devoid cards-- are automatically artifacts. An Artifact or Artifact Creature is defined by its card type. Cards with devoid are simply colorless regardless of their card type or casting cost.

Devoid was introduced into Magic Duels with the second expansion Battle for Zendikar.

702.113a Devoid is a characteristic-defining ability. “Devoid” means “This object is colorless.” This ability functions everywhere, even outside the game. See rule 604.3.
